ABOUT THE BOOK
The present literary and photographic anthology aims to reveal stories, records and memories that revolve around the main theme: the LEVADAS OF MADEIRA.
Its purpose is therefore to establish a relationship between the literary text and the photograph, given the reciprocal nature of these mediums, in order to establish a dialogue between verbal and visual communication.
Given its broad nature, LEVADAS OF MADEIRA: a literary anthology is intended as an invitation to a reading experience, cultural itinerary, to an alternative way of sensibility to the theme in cause, through aesthetic fruition, with all the visual and literary stimuli that reside, float and run from there.
ABOUT THE ORGANIZER
THIERRY PROENÇA DOS SANTOS (Paris, 1966) is an Auxiliary Professor at the University of Madeira, since 2007. He has a PhD in Applied Linguistics and has been developing research and studies of cultural, literary and linguistic aspects originating from the Madeiran environment. Thierry took part in the following editorial initiatives: Universidade da Madeira: 25 anos, a commemorative book which was coordinated with Nelson Veríssimo, 2015; Funchal (d) Escrito - Ensaios sobre representações literárias da Cidade, a monograph which was organised with Ana Isabel Moniz, Ana Margarida Falcão and Leonor M. Coelho, 2011; Crónica Madeirense (1900-2006), anthology which was organized with Fernando Figueiredo and Leonor M. Coelho, 2007. He also coordinated the book Leituras e Afetos: uma Homenagem à Maria Aurora Carvalho Homem, 2010. He does not neglect cultural intervention.
